Green makes it Better!

We have planted around 1000+ trees, consisting of
mango trees, jamun trees, pomegranate trees, and guava trees.
How it Started
Agapai’s go green initiative started from a conversation with a group of friends about the various aspects of life around trees (From sustenance to a place to nap under). The conversation then turned towards the rapidly dwindling tree cover around us.
We decided to do our part.
We started this ‘green mission’ recently and have planted around 1000+ trees, consisting of mango trees, jamun trees, pomegranate trees and guava trees.
How its going
We had some initial problems and failures. We learnt from our mistakes. Saplings planted on the onset of summer had very less survival rate. So we started planting the saplings on the onset of monsoons and the success rate went up.
Sometimes donors are not able to sponsor for the protective wire meshes to safeguard the saplings. So, we use indigenous karuvelam branches to do the job.
We keep learning and improving.

Social Forestry
In India, there exists a system of “Puram Pokku” land, which is used for cattle grazing, herb collection, firewood collection and so on. These lands are seldom recharged.
Our objective is to involve the villagers in social forestry of the “Puram Pokku” lands in and around their village, by planting indigenous shrubs and trees that would replenish and sustain these over exploited lands.
The flora would be such that it meets the food, herbal, firewood, livestock fodder and timber needs of the people.
We have taken small but sure steps to do out part in increasing the green cover. by planting trees along the village roads, barren land and school campuses.
